About Terri Pickett Counseling
I specialize in severe and persistent mental illness, focusing on mood disorders and trauma. Concerns I commonly treat include post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, and bipolar disorders. I have experience working with patients whose concerns include but are not limited to, panic disorder, intermittent explosive disorder, neurodevelopmental disorders, and personality disorders, through individual personal therapy, marriage and family therapy, and school-based therapy. My primary therapeutic approach is Integrative, applying a hybrid of Cognitive Behavioral, Psychoanalytic, and Interpersonal techniques. I strive to facilitate a patient’s introspection of beliefs, as our beliefs are representative of the internal constitution of the mind. When patients can discover the meaning themselves rather than having it taught or interpreted, I believe they take more away from the therapeutic experience. Overall, I consider counseling to be a beginning point for personal change. My primary goal is to assist patients in developing alternative ways of thought and behavior aimed at reducing distress by focusing on identifying distorted thought processes, which are self-defeating and can adversely impact cognition and decision-making.
