About Heather A. Burroughs, MSW, LCSW
Thank you for considering me as your therapist. I believe that choosing the right clinician for your personal journey is very important. And, it is a brave decision you have made to come forward to start this personal quest.
I will assist you in processing through your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I will meet you where you are and allow your discoveries to guide the process. This will be done in a safe, nonjudgmental environment. I will work with you to identify your strengths, areas of growth, and solutions. Often in therapy, insight, and self-awareness grow and we are able to develop our own answers to our questions and find direction. I believe we are the experts on our own lives and sometimes having a trained professional to help guide us to our own answers is what we need.
With over 25 years of experience as a licensed clinical social worker in community settings, such as hospice and hospitals, I have worked with individuals through life transitions, relationships, grief, depression, and anxiety. Some of the evidence-based approaches I use include: Rogerian client-centered, strengths and empowerment-based perspectives, solution-focused therapy, psychoeducation, cognitive behavior therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, mind-body connection concepts, psycho cybernetics, emotional freedom therapy, mindfulness, and systems theory. The approaches used and your treatment plan is based on a thorough assessment of your needs and are as unique as you are as an individual.
One of my areas of specialty is in working with individuals with complex medical issues and disabilities and/or their caregivers. This includes helping families navigate often difficult decisions involved and finding the right resources when health issues occur. Additionally, I have over 10 years of teaching experience in clinical social work and professional counseling programs, therefore, I have an understanding of the stressors that college students experience and I feel equipped to help them navigate often challenging career and life choices.
