About Judy E. Vansiea, DNP, MA, MS
Dr. Judy E. Vansiea is the owner and operator of Coping Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry Services in Uniondale, New York. Dr. Vansiea attributes her many successes in her life to the guidance of the Heavenly Father. Having herself struggled with anxiety and depression, she understands the adverse effects of physical and mental challenges on one’s overall physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and financial wellbeing. Using a faith-based approach to mental health treatment, Dr. Vansiea founded her practice as a testament to her commitment to help people cope, adjust, and adapt to life’s adversities. Dr. Vansiea engages, encourages, and empowers men and women to find motivation and regain mental control by using healthy ways to cope with life’s challenging journey when experiencing mental illness or/and substance use disorders. Some of the therapies utilized in her practice are: cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), supportive therapy, motivational interviewing, strength-based, brief therapy, culturally sensitive therapy, interpersonal therapy, Christian counseling, family therapy, trauma-focused and 12 steps incorporation into treatment.
As a naturalized U.S. citizen and immigrant born, Dr. Vansiea graduated from high school in Brooklyn, New York in 1990 from Prospect Heights High School. Dr. Vansiea grew up between Monrovia with her maternal grandparents and initially came to the United States when she was in elementary school and lived in New York City with her mother. She is the only child of her deceased father and the first child of her mother. Dr. Vansiea has been a Registered Nurse for 23 years and has worked in numerous nursing settings such as an adjunct nursing faculty, inpatient medical/surgical nursing, workers’ compensation, school nursing, outpatient medical and psychiatric clinics, and nursing education and staff development. In addition, she worked over two years as a volunteer Guardian Ad Litem in Ramsey County Second Judicial District in Saint Paul, MN. Dr. Vansiea served as an army nurse and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant stationed at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. She is a Gulf War Era veteran and was honorably medically discharged from the US Army in 2002 with the rank of First Lieutenant.
Coping Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry Services is a faith-based Christian practice that has a mission of CARE and a vision of HOPE. Dr. Vansiea has a holistic integrated approach to treating mental illness and substance use disorders that focuses on three goals such as Intervention, Stabilization, and Rehabilitation for recovery and healing. Dr. Vansiea comes to the table as a practitioner to treat with love, understanding, compassion, open-mindedness and the spirit of empathy. Dr. Vansiea has a strong background in medical/surgical nursing as a Registered Nurse which is an asset to her patients in giving insight and awareness in many medical commodities that exist with mental illness and substance use disorders. In addition, she has an educational background in addiction counseling. This allows her to provide a better holistic and comprehensive approach to treatment. Dr. Vansiea believes that her job is to encourage and empower patients to meet acceptance, be accountable, promote self-love, improve self-esteem, and give them insight and awareness of challenges in their lives; so that they can then develop better coping skills and awareness to healing. Dr. Vansiea's goal is to develop a therapeutic alliance and promote a safe environment for treatment. The focus of her care again is patient-centered and goal-directed interactive efforts in partnership with patients to improve their quality of life.
Dr. Vansiea received her Associate of Science in Pre-Nursing from Mary Holmes College in West Point, Mississippi, where she was salutatorian of her graduating class. She graduated with a dual degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences Interdisciplinary Studies from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, New York. She went on to earn a Master of Science Degree in Mental Health Psychiatric Nursing. She received the distinctions of Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with a focus in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing, leading to her current license and certification as a Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry. Dr. Vansiea also received a Master of Arts in Addiction Counseling from the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies, Center City, Minnesota.
Dr. Vansiea holds an Internationally Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor (ICADC) certification as well. Dr. Vansiea went on to earn the highest clinical degree in her field, a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), with a focus in Transcultural Nursing Leadership from Augsburg University in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dr. Vansiea has received numerous accolades and professional awards. She continues to give back to her community because God and so many others have helped her along her journey.
