About Daniel L. Beckles, MD, PhD, FACS, FACC
Dr. Beckles is double boarded by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He was Fellowship trained at the Brigham & Women's Hospital - Harvard Medical School in Boston and completed his Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. He completed his General Surgery Internship, residency and chief residency at SUNY Downstate Health sciences Center, Brooklyn New York City.
He specializes in advanced heart failure surgery, coronary artery bypass all arterial grafting, minimally invasive surgery, complex cardiac and thoracic surgical care and thoracic transplantation, critical care, hemodynamic monitoring, education, and translational research. Currently, Surgical Director of Heart Transplantation and mechanical assist devices at Baylor Scott & White Health System in Central Texas and Professor (affiliate), Texas A & M University.
Dr. Beckles is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians. He is a member of the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation, American Society of Transplantation, International Society of Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, the Association of Academic Surgeons and the European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgeons.
He obtained his BS and MS in biochemistry and chemistry respectively, from Stony Brook University in New York. He obtained his MD degree from SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in Brooklyn New York and stayed there for his general surgery residency and completed a Ph.D. degree in Cardiovascular Molecular and Cell Biology.
He has 26 peer-reviewed publications, co-authored in 3 text-book chapters and 2 US Patents.
Dr. Beckles is President of the Board of Managers for SUNY Downstate Medical School Alumni Association and Chief Medical Officer for the Trinbago Progressive Association of the USA, Inc.
