About Adam L. Trotta, MD
Adam Trotta, MD, became a medical provider to work closely with people and take an active role in improving their lives. Family medicine was especially inspiring, allowing him to care for patients of all ages—“to learn about them, learn from them, and try to help when I can,” he says.
Dr. Trotta believes that the practice of medicine is holistic; he is guided by the World Health Organization’s definition of wellness: “A state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”
He feels that his most important role as a provider is to offer knowledge and guidance, gathering as much information as possible about a patient and applying a scientific approach to understand the root cause. “I always try to help patients better understand their own bodies so that they can make the best decision about how to improve their health,” he says.
In recent years, Dr. Trotta has devoted his professional focus to addiction medicine and has been supporting several addiction clinics with his expertise and experience, including the Oregon Recovery and Treatment Centers. Dr. Trotta is also professionally involved with two telemedicine addiction companies where he provides online addiction treatment consults to his patients.
Having earned his undergraduate degree in biochemistry from the University of San Diego, Dr. Trotta went on to get a master’s degree in public health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a medical degree from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. Following his internship and residency program with the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, he went on a mission trip with Doctors Without Borders in the Central African Republic and served in the Peace Corps for two years in Guinea (West Africa).
Born in Montana and raised in Medford, Oregon, Dr. Trotta has lived in diverse places around the world, from Paris and London to Guatemala and Peru; his travels inspired a special focus in global health and tropical medicine.
