John Gary Tharp, M.D., has practiced in Central Arkansas since 1994. He is a board certified physician in Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine from the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine and The Metabolic Medicine Institute. Dr Tharp, a 1975 graduate of Pine Bluff High School, attended Baylor University from 1975 until 1982, where he earned a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music.
After attending the University of Texas at Austin from 1982-1985, to complete the pre-medical curriculum, he attended the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, TX from 1985 to 1989. After medical school graduation, he remained at Southwestern and Parkland Memorial Hospital to complete an internship and a general residency in psychiatry.
Dr Tharp participated in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Residency Program at Arkansas Children's Hospital and University of Arkansas in Medical Sciences in Little Rock, AR from 1992-1994.
Dr Tharp has served as medical director of numerous programs at both inpatient and outpatient psychiatric facilities as well as maintaining an outpatient practice of his own.
He currently serves as medical director at Rivendell Psychiatric Hospital in Benton, AR, where he is a primary attending physician for the child and adolescent psychiatry program. He is the medical director at Millcreek Residential Treatment facility in Fordyce, AR, where he provides residential psychiatric care as an attending physician. He is also the medical director at Inspirations Day Treatment program in Little Rock, AR, where he and his staff provide outpatient adult psychiatric services. Dr Tharp's outpatient psychiatric practice, Arkansas Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, P.A., was established in 1994 and continues today.
Dr Tharp was board certified in General Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and in Addiction Psychiatry from the mid-1990's through 2017. He began his fellowship with Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine from the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine and The Metabolic Medicine Institute in 2013 and became board certified in the fall of 2018.
