About Virginia L. Mcmillian, DDS

John Day Smiles: McMillan, DDS, PC is housed in a comfortable home that has been converted into a cozy dental office. Our John Day dentist office is easy to find - just drive up Ford Road and look left for the green house with red rock trim. Our dental office sits up on a hill overlooking the city of John Day.

When you enter our dentist office, the first thing you'll notice is how comfortable and welcoming it feels. Instead of walking into a cold, clinical setting, you'll feel like you're being welcomed into a friend's home.

There's a place to hang your hat, jacket, or scarf while you relax in a comfortable chair or on a couch. Fresh flowers always brighten up our front office desk and we offer all of our dental patients coffee, tea, cider, or hot chocolate before you are seen by Dr. McMillan and our dental team.

Dr. McMillan understands that many people have a fear of the dentist. That's why she takes her time with every patient to make sure you feel comfortable and safe. Our John Day dental team is here to answer any questions you have and won't move forward with your dental treatment until you feel 100% relaxed.

For the past ten years, Dr. Virginia McMillan has been treating dental patients in the John Day Valley and neighboring communities, with a special emphasis on helping nervous patients overcome their fear of dental care. Many of her patients have been able to overcome their dental anxiety thanks to the one-on-one personal care Dr. McMillan provides.

There is no difference between the two degrees: dentists who have a DMD or DDS have the same education. Universities have the prerogative to determine what degree is awarded. Both degrees use the same curriculum requirements set by the American Dental Association's Commission on Dental Accreditation. Generally, three or more years of undergraduate education plus four years of dental school is required to graduate and become a general dentist. State licensing boards accept either degree as equivalent, and both degrees allow licensed individuals to practice the same scope of general dentistry. Additional post-graduate training is required to become a dental specialist.
