Established a solo primary care practice in Hagerstown Md when 6 months pregnant with my first child. Have tried to be willing to “think outside the box” when taking care of my patients and consequently have become extremely skilled in diagnosing problems missed by others. By being willing to give pancreatic enzymes for IBS-D, became the first doctor to conduct a research study demonstrating the effectiveness of the enzymes and lead to further research establishing that IBS-D may be due to a genetic problem related to inadequate digestive enzymes. Lead a community effort to prevent the burning of Hazardous waste in Washington County and was on the Maryland Hazardous waste task force. Recognized that the diabetic drug, Avandia, was causing atypical “pneumonia” but was actually congestive heart failure. Consequently was asked to testify for the Plaintiffs Hearing Committee on Avandia.
After 42 years in private independent practice in Hagerstown, decided to transition to telemedicine consultation service for any adult in Maryland in 2022. Office visits were too limited to do a thorough job of evaluating problems and with telemedicine, time is not restricted.
My passion is to work with any patient and any provider to help each patient understand what the problem is and how to manage it. I try to become a partner with each patient to understand what they are experiencing and am loving every time I have helped resolve a problem.
