Dr Arpita Dharia received a Bachelor of Science from Maharashtra University of Health Sciences in 2002 and a post-graduate diploma in Occupational Therapy from the University of Mumbai in 2004. Both universities are located in Mumbai, India. Later in her career, she went on to obtain a post professional Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) from the prestigious Rocky Mountain University of Health Professionals in 2014.

Arpita has been a practicing occupational therapist for more than 19 years and has held various staff and per-diem positions in several settings throughout her career. These include roles as the occupational therapist and/or Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) at Genesis Rehab Services, Morristown Memorial Hospital, Tender Touch Rehab Services, and Hands on Healing. She was also responsible for opening and managing hand therapy units for Concentra Urgent Care, Twin Boro Physical Therapy and Sports Med Physical Therapy while working with those businesses as the clinical director of hand therapy.

Arpita is a member of the American Society of Hand Therapists (ASHT) and New Jersey Occupational Therapy Association (NJOTA) and has the distinguished honor of holding the title of Certified Hand Therapist (CHT). She is also certified in New Jersey for the use of physical agent modalities like ultrasound, electrical stimulation, ice and heat therapy. Throughout her career, Arpita has regularly taken continuing education courses to maintain and advance her knowledge base, with topics including orthotic fabrication, taping, and work conditioning and functional capacity evaluations. She has been invited to speak as a guest instructor at Seton Hall University’s orthotic lab on hand therapy and orthotic device fabrication and is currently working with the faculty to develop and conduct a hand therapy intervention lab for fall 2021. Arpita has presented at international conferences and won best scientific paper for her work on cumulative trauma disorders of hand and has the honor of serving as lead author of two published manuscripts in the Indian Journal of Occupational Therapy.

Arpita has clinical expertise in treating all diagnoses of the upper extremity from birth to adulthood. These include the rehabilitation of both conservative and post-surgical conditions like arthritis, stroke, trauma care, tendon and nerve injuries, and wound care, and she is equipped to fabricate customized orthotics for her patients. She also specializes in hand therapy for occupational health and workers’ compensation injuries including work conditioning. Arpita always prioritizes close communication with the referring doctor while managing each patient, and some of her treatment strategies include manual (hands-on) techniques, kinesio taping, and patient education. She has a passion for teaching and has mentored fieldwork level 2 OTD and MSOT students as a clinical instructor, assistants, and therapists during her clinical practice.
