My approach to therapy starts with helping clients identify where they are presently, and where they want to be. This sets the foundation for therapy. From here we can dive into the roots, explore previous paths taken, explore what the options are, and how to advance towards their goals. I view clients as unique individuals, and tailor the therapy process to their individualized needs. I deeply respect and admire the strength and courage it takes to take that first step in the door. I use an eclectic approach to therapy, drawing from different models of treatment, based on what best suits a client's needs. Life’s journey can feel like a roller-coaster ride, full of intense emotions - excitement, fear, anticipation, laughter, and screams. Many people find it is best enjoyed with the safety bar on, and therapy can provide this type of containment.
Certifications and Expertise
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (with a focus on Mental Health), specializing in individual, couples, and family therapy. I work with adults, adolescents and children. In my eclectic approach to therapy, I often draw from: cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic, motivational enhancement, mindfulness and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). Using this approach helps to continuously meet my clients needs as they progress in therapy. I believe it is always important to recognize a client’s reality – the systems/factors that come into play in their everyday life. By keeping this in mind, it helps to ensure that the tools learned in therapy are applicable to their real life--outside the office. I also have experience working with military families and veterans, victim of crimes and domestic violence.
My training and expertise have been in a variety of settings: outpatient, home-based, community and school based, inpatient, residential treatment, and day/partial treatment. These settings, provided me with new and unique experiences in developing therapeutic relationships with clients as well as discovering avenues to best help them reach their goals
