About Lyndsay E. O'Neill, CD
Hello, I’m Lyndsay! I’m a Certified Birth Doula and the founder of Lower Slower Doula, formerly Sublime Motherhood. I’ve attended over 45 births in hospitals, birth centers, and at home along the Eastern Shore in the last 8 years. As a proud Sussex County resident, I’m thrilled to be working close to home and serving our local community.
I didn't always think motherhood was sublime! I had a very difficult experience giving birth to my daughter, and it made me afraid of childbirth. I was young and uneducated on the process, but I went to a childbirth education course through the hospital and thought it would be fine. I experienced an early induction, several interventions, was separated from my daughter and my husband after her delivery, and later, I experienced severe postpartum depression and anxiety.
When I became pregnant with my son, although I was excited, I was terrified of a repeat experience. I started reading every childbirth education book I could get my hands on and I kept reading about “birth doulas,” which was a brand new idea to me. This research led me to take charge of my birth. I enrolled in a DONA Birth Doula training, hired a wonderful Doula I trained with to support me, and I was able to have the beautiful birth experience I wanted as well as a much easier postpartum recovery period. I’ve been passionate about this work, maternal health care, and supporting families ever since.
My birth philosophy is your birth philosophy! What that means for you is that I am truly passionate about every family's birth and postpartum experience and it is my top priority to focus on what is most important to you as a family. My goals as a professional are to support, honor, and educate clients throughout our working relationship to gently reduce fear and anxiety, eliminate pain as much as possible, and provide physical and emotional comfort.
