About Etianna A. Etienne, PhD
I am a doctoral candidate pursuing a doctorate degree in clinical psychology. At my current practice at a community mental health center, I am providing psychotherapy to a wide range of clients, including adults and youths. Most of the clients I serve have a history of trauma and are diagnosed with trauma-related disorders often related to their experiences as immigrants, lower socioeconomic status, and their experiences as members of minority groups.
Currently, I am offering telehealth sessions for clients. I perform psychological assessments and provide services including individual counseling, parent and child education, cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), play therapy, psychotherapy, and referral to other medical specialists as needed. I specialize in the treatment of trauma, stress, anxiety, CBT, and motivational issues for youth and adult clients.
In therapy, my goal is to understand, appreciate, and respect clients' humanity and autonomy while addressing and exploring the origins of the presenting problems. When meeting new clients, my goal is to provide a warm, inviting, and relaxed environment in which we can build rapport and meet the treatment goals. I apply evidence-based approaches to help clients re-establish a sense of meaning and security in accordance with their core beliefs and values.
Clients may consult me for a brief behavioral health assessment (depression, anxiety, trauma, psychosis, substance use, etc.) and counseling. I accept clients who have a mental health diagnosis as well as those who are undiagnosed. PLEASE NOTE THAT I WILL NOT DIAGNOSE ANY CLIENT. I may, however, provide clients with a clinical formulation and recommendations for services.
A clinical formulation, also known as case formulation and problem formulation, is a theoretically-based explanation or conceptualization of the information obtained from a clinical assessment. In therapy, it is used to help formulate a diagnosis.
