About Joseph T. Bell, II, MD

Dr. Bell is the founder of Vein Specialists of Alaska. He earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Go Tarheels! He started his career as an emergency physician for 13 years. When he developed his own symptomatic varicose vein problem and underwent the thermal vein treatment in 2004, he was drawn to this new avenue of modern vein medicine. After apprenticing with one of the country's renowned vein specialists, in 2005 he started his own vein practice in North Carolina. In 2008, Dr. Bell joined the first class of vein specialists to take and pass testing to become a Diplomat of the American Board of Venous & Lymphatic Medicine. In 2010, he relocated to Alaska to practice vein medicine and he started VSA in 2013. He remains as passionate today as the very first day caring for Alaskans who suffer with vein and lymphatic disease. He constantly strives to improve the practice and prides himself on really making the patient experience exceptional. Patient feedback is always elicited and consistently top-notch for staff and provider care.

The phlebologist is also trained in a variety of therapeutic interventions, which may include compression, sclerotherapy, cutaneous vascular laser, endovenous thermoablation procedures (laser and radiofrequency) endovenous chemical ablation, surgical procedures (e.g., ambulatory phlebectomy, venous ligation), vasoactive medications and the management of venous thromboembolism.
