About Gerald R. Showalter, PsyD
Dr. Gerald Showalter completed his graduate training in clinical psychology and neuropsychology at the Florida Institute of Technology. He completed a Residency in Clinical Psychology and Postdoctoral Fellowship in Neuropsychology and Rehabilitation Psychology at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He has provided services in private practice since 2000 and has held management positions in the provision of behavioral health and brain injury services. He managed a postdoctoral fellowship program in Rehabilitation Neuropsychology in collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia, where he held an adjunct faculty position. He has been a member of the medical staff at Augusta Health in Fishersville, Virginia through 2022, and at the Wilson Workforce and Rehabilitation Center until 2012.
Dr. Showalter's clinical interests and areas of expertise include evaluation of memory loss and dementia, evaluation and rehabilitation of traumatic brain injury, testing for attention deficit disorders, and clarification of capacity for decision making (e.g., in circumstances of suspected or confirmed intellectual disability and/or advancing dementia/Alzheimer's disease).
Dr. Showalter is the Founder and Director of Melbourne MedPsych and provides services in our Melbourne office.
