About Oren Michaeli, DO
Dr. Oren Michaeli specializes in hand, nerve, and microsurgery in New York City and New Jersey. He performs various operations, ranging from carpal tunnel release to emergency hand and finger replantation. His particular areas of interest are the treatment of regional paralysis through nerve transfers, tendon transfers, or muscle transfers. Dr. Michaeli is committed to improving the quality of life of his patients through individualized treatment plans.
In addition to upper extremity surgery, Dr. Michaeli provides peripheral nerve operations on the lower extremity as well for chronic painful neuromas or phantom limbs. He also provides surgical lymphatic surgery for patients with upper or lower extremity lymphedema.
Dr. Michaeli received his osteopathic doctorate from Midwestern University in Glendale, AZ. He then completed a General Surgery Residency at NYU Langone Hospital Long Island, where he developed a strong base of knowledge and skills in all aspects of general surgery, including trauma, minimally invasive techniques, and surgical critical care medicine. Realizing his passion for hand and nerve surgery, Dr. Michaeli further completed a Hand and Microsurgery fellowship at the world-renowned Kleinert Kutz Hand Care Center in Louisville, KY, where many firsts happened such as the first functional flexor tendon repair and the first-hand transplant. He then completed an additional fellowship in Advanced Reconstructive Microsurgery and Brachial Plexus Surgery at Ganga Hospital in India, the referral center for all complex reconstructive operations in South Asia. Ganga performs the highest number of brachial plexus reconstructions of any hospital in the world.
Dr. Michaeli resides in New York City with his wife and two children. He enjoys cooking, hiking, live music, and spending time with his family.
