About Thomas D. Hodgkiss, MD

Dr. Thomas Hodgkiss is a Board Certified Interventional Radiologist. A native of Memphis, TN, he attended Vanderbilt University and earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He earned his medical degree at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine and completed a fellowship program in Interventional Radiology at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. He has lived and practiced in the Memphis area for over 20 years.

Dr. Hodgkiss has served as Assistant Clinical Professor of Radiology at the University of Tennessee Health Center. He has focused his practice on interventional oncology and has cared for and treated cancer patients at two large cancer centers for more than 15 years. He serves as a consultant, researcher, and physician educator for the Medtronic Company in the specialty of bone and spinal tumor ablation. He also works in collaboration with Angiodynamics, developing and advancing microwave treatments for soft tissue cancers.

He has served as a primary investigator on two large research projects with Medtronic, involving percutaneous repair of aortic aneurysms and spinal kyphoplasty with the associated recovery post-procedure. He helped in the development of the Osteocool radiofrequency system from Medtronic that is used in the treatment of cancer that has invaded the bone. Dr. Hodgkiss also works in collaboration with DFINE Inc., as a consultant and proctor, to advance radiofrequency ablation treatments for spinal bone tumors.

Dr. Hodgkiss' primary areas of interest are interventional radiology/oncology, medical pain therapies and regenerative medicine. He also specializes in Kyphoplasty treatment for vertebral compression fractures. Dr. Hodgkiss has performed over 500 kyphoplasty procedures, over 200 tumor bone ablations, over 1000 soft tissue tumor ablations and over 10,000 biopsies.
