About Anita Petruzzelli, MD
Anita Petruzzelli, M.D. is the owner and Medical Director of BodyLogicMD of Hartford. She focuses on empowering her patients to take care of their body and mind by embracing a healthy lifestyle to help them achieve optimal health through structured fitness programs, nutritional guidance, and hormonal balance using bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. She helps both men and women resolve the symptoms of menopause and andropause including weight gain, sexual dysfunction, declining energy levels, depression, and stress.
In 2002 when the Women’s Health Initiative was published, Dr. Petruzzelli sought a safe alternative to synthetic and bio-similar hormones for her patients suffering from menopausal symptoms. She attended the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine’s course on bio-identical hormones and learned that bioidentical hormones were safe, effective, and preferred by patients. She also learned that a functional medicine approach could be used to improve all aspects of health such as high blood pressure, diabetes or pre-diabetes, high cholesterol, intestinal issues, insomnia, stress, memory, energy and more.
As an obstetrician- gynecologist for over 15 years she has experience and expertise treating the whole patient. Dr. Petruzzelli’s undergraduate education was at Fairfield University and she attended medical school at the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. She interned in general surgery at Waterbury Hospital, in Waterbury, Connecticut and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, Connecticut.Dr. Petruzzelli is Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and is a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is also a member of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine and completed a fellowship through the American Board of Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine. She has worked as an OB/GYN for over 15 years including private practice at Yale New Haven Hospital and most recently at the Center for Women’s Health and Midwifery as a Hospitalist.Dr. Anita Petruzzelli understands the importance of physical fitness and sound nutrition and was a competitive bodybuilder. She was recognized as Ms. National Collegiate in 1986 and Ms. Washington, D.C. in 1989. She continues to live an active lifestyle.Dr. Petruzzelli stresses the importance of mind-body interaction and practices daily meditation. She is a student and teacher at Odiyana Buddhist Center in Glastonbury, Connecticut. Meditation has been scientifically shown to help depression, anxiety, insomnia, chronic pain, posttraumatic stress, and even slow down aging.
