About Emma K. McGowan, MD

Emma McGowan, M.D. has been a staff physician at Medical Wellness Associates since 2002. A native of Western Pennsylvania, she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from Gannon University in Erie and earned her medical degree in 1984 from Hahnemann University (now Drexel University) in Philadelphia. Dr. McGowan completed her internship and residency in medicine and ophthalmology at St. Francis Medical Center in Pittsburgh.

After being in private practice and doing clinical research in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, she moved to the Washington, D.C. area, where she worked in the Public Health Service. She returned home to Pittsburgh in 1998 and began working in multidisciplinary offices. In 2002, she joined the medical staff of Medical Wellness Associates, where she has been practicing integrative medicine ever since.

Dr. McGowan is a licensed certified medical acupuncturist, completing her training at the prestigious Helms Medical Institute of Berkeley, California. She is trained in integrative medicine and is certified in chelation therapy. She received advanced training in regenerative medicine, including prolotherapy, platelet rich plasma therapy (PRP), stem cell therapy, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), neural prolotherapy (NPT), and integrative oncology. She has a holistic approach to treatment and patient care. As the Clinical Director of the IV department, Dr. McGowan develops IV treatment plans for individual patients and provides dietary and lifestyle recommendations, oral supplementation, and homeopathic and IV vitamins as necessary. She is a specialist in advanced IV care (including laser protocols) and an expert in ozone therapies.
